Well, since the forum is dead (for the most part), and I'm really "not happy" (to put it nicely. I figured no one wants to see a string of cursing and whatnot ), I'll rant here. Might liven up some discussion.
So, about three weeks ago I buy some stuff at Circuit City (CC from here on out). Cost me a good 400 usd (high-end graphics card that'd put my semi-old machine back up to "1337-gaming box" status yet again; cost the majority). Then the fun started happening:
The MP3 player I bought (90 usd) quit working after 2 days. Just sat at the boot screen. The power supply unit (to supplement the graphics card) cost me 80 usd and doesn't even fit! I kept the graphics card with the thought that I could find a replacement somewhere for an equal or lesser price (nope, Dell uses proprietary PSUs and I've got to special order one for almost the cost of a computer (for the wattage I want)).
So, today I cruised over there to return the stuff (volunteering to work overtime is a good concept, but never a good idea). The guy seemed somewhat knowledgeable, until it happened...
See, I had paid with a series of rebate/gift cards (courtesy of some friends) and a credit card. Sounds simple, just credit the money to the one not printed on the receipt as "gift card". Well, guess what the moron did... Yep, credited the money to the gift cards.
So, I've a lot of money (for my minimum-wage self) tied up in gift cards that are expired! I can't use them, and there's absolutely no way that the guy shouldn't have caught that.
Wait... They were just in the paper for firing their entire staff to replace them with "younger, more motivated workers" (read "lazy kids who will accept substantially less than minimum wage because they think commissions will get them some serious money, yet still spend 99% of their time standing around "looking cool" instead of trying to sell something"). The oldest person there was a 27-year old (guessing) guy who looked like an ex-con (tattoos, piercings and the rest of the stereotypical "I've been in jail" look)! Worse yet, he was the manager!
How do I know this? I caught the mistake on my way out (always look at them receipts!), but because the guy was extremely new to management, he just gave me the default answer of "but it's in the system...".
So, unless I can find out where my money went, would anyone like to donate to a "Compensate Earl for the evil CC corp's behaviour" fund?
Needless to say, I'm never going back there unless it's a life-or-death emergency (and even then I'll hesitate). Their stuff was over-priced anyway... (geeks.com has some great deals).
