easiest way is probably st$=mid$(SS$,1,3)+"-"+mid$(ss$,4,2)+"-"+mid$(ss$,6) print st$

Yes but you need to convert the entry into 3 numbers.
INPUT "Enter your social security number(no dashes!): ", entry$ first = VAL(MID$(entry$, 1, 3)) second = VAL(MID$(entry$, 4, 2)) third = VAL(MID$(entry$, 6, 4))
PRINT USING "SSN = ###-##-####", first, second, third
You can also check the entry$ length before it is sent using a loop around the INPUT statement and using LOOP UNTIL LEN(entry$) = 9
