You may not have one. Certainly there is no way I know of of turning it off, so it may just not be there.
Sometimes you are given the option of playing internal speaker sounds through your external speakers (though I've never seen this myself). DOSBOX might be able to do this as well.
There are ways to get sounds through the external speakers too (SBMIDI is an external program that lets you play MIDI files via soundblaster, for instance) but the newer the Windows, the less likely these are to work. Usually they work fine in DOSBOX, though.
I might advise getting your hands on a cheap/free (discarded?) PC and putting DOS or Windows 95 on it; you'll be able to do much more exotic stuff. While you're at it you might also want to install linux but that's another matter that can be discussed on the General board, if you wish.

Chequer, how many times and places are you going to ask that question?
Obviously, you DO NOT HAVE A SPEAKER!
Forget about it or get a computer that uses the soundboard to do it. My laptop uses the soundboard to send DOS sounds.
Many newer comuters have no speaker. Buy one and put it to the motherboard like we told you before.
Really it is NOT worth the effort anyway! The sounds are not that great! It does not sound like real music.
