How do you close a file without closing the QBasic program?

If you mean what I think you do...
File->Save will save the program.
File->New will close the current program and open a blank program (if the current program is unsaved you will be asked whether or not you want to save it)
If (as is unlikely at this stage) you mean closing a file opened with the OPEN "filename.ext" FOR ... AS ... command, then you close it by using the CLOSE command, optionally with the file number after if you want to close only one specific opened file.

Thank you. I didn't know if a current program would stay open, when a new one opened. Like in Windows, everything stays open, even as you open new one.
