Well, I'm not asking for homework help, so I suppose this is within the terms of the ToS. I need help finding "citable and credible" sources for my thesis (which happens to be involving QBasic). Yes, my HS requires me to do a pseudo-thesis to graduate. It doesn't have to be good, but I figure if I'm going to do it, I'll do it right. Anyway, any and all citable (ie webpages, books, etc) sources that you know of (obviously they'd have to be free or available at a standard library) that involve QBasic or the Magic 8 Ball (the primary topic of my thesis is on the Magic 8 Ball. I wrote a QB program to emulate it ). Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance. -Earl

Ooh! I'm just beginning to make one! Le voila: www.autopack.com/aleks/wiki/doku.php?id=quickbasic(I've still to fix the formatting, it doesn't use all of standard wiki syntax) I'm planning to improve and extend it, including great tutorials and stuff. You can help although I'll be quite upset if you vandalise. And don't be surprised if I remove or replace something you placed there. It's MY wiki and I'm going to make it how I think best. (Obviously almost anything helpful you add will either be improved or left as it is, but I'm just warning you now that if I believe something could be easier to understand or more useful if phrased differently, I'm going to amend it.)

The problem is that while this will undoubtably help me write the actual report, I still can't quote it as a source. It's a wiki, something my school somehow knows about (my school is usually technologically illiterate) (probably too many quotes from wikipedia), so I can't use it. If you know of any professional sites (not that yours isn't good, it sure does look good and is one of the more complete histories of QB that I've seen (sadly no one seems to know much about how QB came about)), those would be the ones I'd need.
With your permission, I'd like to edit your page. I saw some spelling mistakes and grammatical mistakes, as well as some organizational errors.
Before submission Edit: oh, wait. You did give me permission. Thanks!

... Ok, I'll just dump it in a web page and say it's authored by me ^_^. Or I could exclude wiki from the URL. Or I could prevent anyone but me from editing it (I'm sure that's a valid argument: this person finds wikipedia formatting, syntax and crosslinks very helpful and a lot easier to manage than HTML, but it really is authored by only this person) The last one is the one I like best; I'm not too keen on making this world-writable anyway. But ooh! Checkkitt! I've been looking for this for ages, and I found it again. Lovely site. www.ojodepez-fanzine.net/network/qbdl/

Sweet site.
Nothing you do with your site will affect it. They'll check it out and could stumble upon this site. So, as I'd like to graduate, I can't run the risk of that happening. I'll just find some encyclopedia site that'll give me probably nothing to work with. If it weren't for the fact that I've got this much work done, I'd just skip to another (more easily researchable) project...

Try checking your local library for BASIC books. (Preferably a library that's over 20 years old and was around when people thought programming was for anyone)
It's unlikely you'll find any about QBasic, but older BASIC dialects (like BASICA) are likely to be there, and may have a detailed history of BASIC up to that point within them.
Also there are several non-wiki sites here and there about QB.
P.S. FOR THE (hopefully) LAST TIME, HOMEWORK HELP IS FINE! It's homework-being-done-by-someone-else that isn't. I.e. if someone requests a complete program that's obviously a homework task, it is recommended that the request be refused. (If it's not homework-related, e.g. a small business program or a hobby serial communications program, then whoever has the time is free to attend to the request.) If the person has made a clear attempt and wants assistance, it's perfectly fine to help them.
If you can think of a clear and concise way to say that please present it to me.
