instead of using the mouse, try using the keyboard. alt-F, alt-E, and so on. see if that works.

What version are you using, and are you running it out of a dos prompt? Up until recently I've been using qbasic1.1 in a dos prompt and my mouse didnt work, but now I'm running 4.5 in windows and it works-
